About Julia Wade

Julia Wade, described by Inside World Music as “the female equivalent of Josh Groban,” is an Inspirational and Classical Crossover artist whose work spans diverse musical styles.  She has performed nationally and internationally as a concert soloist, as well as in opera, cabaret and musical theatre, including The Rome Opera and Carnegie Hall.

Defining her work, Julia says, “I sing evocative ideas, working to inspire change in the world and healing in individual lives.”

As a recording artist, Julia has 7 solo CDs to date, including her most recent sacred release, SOLOS, as well as the contemporary AFFIRMATIONS, the perennial favorite, STORY FOR THE AGES, Julia’s Spanish release, ALABADO SEA DIOS and her classic recording, UPON THE MOUNTAIN.  Julia’s CD release EVERY DAY was the feature project that began the Watchfire Music Listening Room, a most successful concert series in New York City.  Additionally, Julia appears on many compilation CDs as well as musical cast albums.

In December 2012, Julia will release her new CD, SILK ROAD — Inspirational Journeys Across Planet EarthSILK ROAD marks a groundbreaking departure from the largely sacred collection of CDs that Julia has previously recorded.  Having spent the last 8 years keenly focused on sacred music, Julia is now extending her horizons as an artist, reaching out with thought-provoking material that takes her present international audience on an expanded journey.

SILK ROAD contains songs that grapple with current issues in the world, love songs, and inspirational songs that look at life with fresh eyes.

Recently, Julia completed a successful 7-year run as Soloist at the headquarters of a worldwide church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, MA where she performed and was broadcast live on the internet each Sunday.  There she led the way to expanding music in church by introducing contemporary and original music into the Sunday services, bringing accessibility to sacred music while maintaining its time-honored traditions.

As a farewell gift to her international church audience, Julia recorded and released her sacred CD, SOLOS.  Inspiring to many, the lyrics of the 12 songs are drawn directly from the prose writings of Mary Baker Eddy, a great spiritual thinker. These texts are set to truly innovative contemporary music by Julia’s producer and principal songwriter, Peter Link.

In 2011, Julia had the honor to be a guest vocalist on a tremendous recording project by Peter Link called GOIN’ HOME – On Heaven and Beyond.  Julia recorded Grammy Award Winner Julie Gold’s haunting song, “Come To Me As A Bird” to close the CD, which includes vocalists Jenny Burton, Tom Tipton Catherine Russell and gospel choir composed of New York’s top session singers.  Paul Zollo, reviewer for American Songwriter Magazine wrote,
“[Come To Me As A Bird is] performed exquisitely by the wonderful Julia Wade, whose heartbreakingly crystalline soprano and soaring passion matches the purity of the song’s spirit.”

Ms. Wade, I read your post about the new hymnal supplement released in 2008, and that you said it was the first new set of hymns since 1932. Are you familiar at all with the prior editions of the hymnal (i.e., the 1910 edition, the one right before the current one )? Also, are you familiar with Hymnal Notes published in conjunction with the 1932 edition? Thank you, and you have a great website!
